Irving S. Gilmore Student Arts Scholarships ($80,000)

Scholarships are available to eligible* K-12 Kalamazoo County students for artistic education and enrichment beyond the classroom. Funds for the 2018-2019 school year will be awarded for private arts instruction, classes at arts institutions or summer arts camps and other arts related activities.  All intermediate and advanced level applicants must also upload a work sample to be reviewed by the grant panelists. (*Legal residence must be within one of the nine local districts serviced by Kalamazoo RESA. Current seniors are not eligible to apply.) January deadline.

 

Downbeat Magazine - Annual Student Awards

Ages 6th grade and up through college. Deadline is December 31.

 

Young Arts

YoungArts’ signature program is an application-based award for emerging artists ages 15–18 or in grades 10–12 from across the United States. Selected through a blind adjudication process conducted by an independent panel of highly accomplished artists, YoungArts winners receive valuable support, including financial awards of up to $10,000, professional development and educational experiences working with renowned mentors, and performance and exhibition opportunities at some of the nation’s leading cultural institutions. Applications for the YoungArts competition are accepted annually beginning the first Tuesday of June through the second Friday of October.

 

Jazz Education Network - Young Composers Showcase

The Young Composer Showcase spotlights young jazz composers, giving students an opportunity to have an original composition recognized and performed at an International level. JEN membership required to apply. Applications open in March.

 

Jazz Education Network - Outstanding Student Scholarhips

Each year, JEN proudly recognizes the talented and hardworking students and educators who have made an impact on jazz. Several scholarships are offered to ages 14 through High School and College-aged students. JEN membership required to apply. Applications open in March, September deadline.

 

Washington Women in Jazz Festival - Young Artist Showcase

Take part in the 8th Washington Women in Jazz Festival Young Artist Showcase! The showcase is for emerging jazz women and non-binary musicians in high school and college. Applications open in November.
